Every day of my life since I was six years old, I have been thankful for my little sister, Susan. She has been the one constant person by my side, having my back, no matter what.
We grew up sharing a bedroom. We certainly had our trials, but we always managed to thrive. On Easter every year, our Mom made us matching dresses to wear to church. Those were simpler times, and the good ole years.
Later, we both married and were bridesmaids for each other. We each had one son, and, not only did we dote on our own sons, but we also loved our nephews tremendously. Now, both of our sons have their own children and our love has multiplied to include the grandchildren.
In so many ways, we are more like twins than a lot of actual twins. Susan and I have traveled together, and, I must admit, she is the best traveling buddy I have ever had. We shop together and buy the same things. We arrange to wear the same outfits on the same day, which always brings a double take from friends. We even drive the exact same vehicle.
For a number of years now, we have texted each other first thing every morning. That’s the bright spot of my day, and starts me out on sound footing.
We have been together on all our birthdays, all the holidays and many other delightful occasions. We have also been together on the days when we lost our Mom, our Daddy and our brother. There have been good times and there have been sad times, but I always knew she was there for me, no matter the circumstances.
So, today I want to say thank you to my little sister. I am grateful for everything you have done for me and with me through the years. I love you always!
